ABOUT
Fantastic Folktales (80 min) is the debut feature documentary from directors Evandro Caixeta and João Gilberto Lara. Funded by a Minas Gerais state grant, where it won first place in its category, the film culminates years of dedicated research within their home state's countryside.
Its intimate approach features interviews with local residents (primarily over 60 years old) alongside diverse experts. Going beyond testimonials, the filmmakers accompanied participants back to the very locations of their uncanny experiences and used animation to visualize these unique, often unseen, moments. The project was presented at the 2025 Marché du Film (Cannes) within the "Minas Gerais Reels" special showcase.
